We proudly welcome the Cheshire Youth Rugby to the AFR community. The Town of Cheshire is a residential community located in New Haven County, Connecticut with a population of approximately 30,000 people. This year, 2010, marks the second season of the Cheshire Youth Rugby program and it's first season associated with AFR. American Flag Rugby is heating up all over the country. Denville, part of the Morris Youth Rugby summer league had a clinic recently to teach youth rugby referees the ropes. The referee clinic was held on a Wednesday evening from 7-9pm at the Denville Library very close to the field where the Denville Dawgs youth team plays. Referee Lil Rimac lead the clinic. American flag Rugby has learned that NBC has agreed to broadcast the first Rugby 7s collegiate championship to be held in June 2010. The June 5-6 tournament will be, what NBC believes, the first time college rugby have appeared on broadcast TV. More detail »

If we consider the very young average age of USA 7s coach Al Caravelli, we can expect some of our youth presently playing flag rugby to be apart of the 2016 Olympics. The United States, defending champion of rugby in the Olympics dating back to 1924, is looking for a few good kids to round out our teams. For seven weeks each summer, more than 1,000 kids in Morris County assemble at parks and schools around the area to play a flag version of rugby. The season culminates with a flag festival held in Chester, NJ. In 2009, over 100 teams playing in over 150 games on 18 fields participated in the event.
